As any other girl, Gemma dreamed about being a princess and in a way succeeded to be one when playing Tamina in Prince of Persia. Read what she had to say when talking to Contact Music about it.

Gemma Arterton has revealed she always dreamed of being a princess, but doesn’t think she is graceful enough.

Gemma Arterton grew up wanting to be a princess.

The ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’ actress admits she dreamed of being rescued by a hero, but thinks she lacked the grace and elegance to be truly regal.

She said: “I come from a simple background. My mum was a cleaner and my dad was a welder. But there was a time when I wanted to become a princess. I probably read too many romantic novels. I always wanted to be rescued by a prince. But I wouldn’t have looked my best. When I was younger I always used to trip and unerringly land in the nearest mud puddle.”

While the 24-year-old British star doesn’t think she could cut it as a princess, she believes she has what it takes to be an action heroine – but admits she worries more about what women think of her physical side than men.

She added to Gala.de: “What makes a good action heroine? You have to keep up with the boys. In a fist fight I always have the upper hand. However, for me it’s important to look feminine at the same time. I want the girls to think I’m cool.”

Who is this girl that’s popping up in all these big action movies? Where on Earth did she come from?

Gemma Arterton is from England – and its prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, thank you very much. She’s done Shakespeare at the Globe Theatre, been a hit in London’s West End and played Thomas Hardy’s doomed heroine in a “Tess of the D’Urbervilles” TV miniseries.

But you’ve more likely noticed her as one of the Bond girls in the last 007 film, “Quantum of Solace.” Or as the quasi-immortal fighting babe Io in the recent “Clash of the Titans” remake.

And now Arterton can be seen in her biggest film yet, the video game adaptation “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.” Like many a classically trained British actress, she plays a royal: Tamina, ruler of the mythical medieval city of Alamut.

But this lady, the only prominent female in the Jerry Bruckheimer mega-production, can swing a sword and ride an Arabian horse with the best of the guys.

It took a good deal of training and stamina to perform all that in the heat of the Moroccan desert. But Arterton was more than up for it.

Gemma talked to MTV for a press junket interview about the stunts she had to do for Prince of Persia.

From Bond girl to protector of a magical dagger, “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” co-star Gemma Arterton is no damsel in distress. Whether it’s “Clash of the Titans” or her latest swords-and-sandals epic, the English actress likes it physical.

“I think it’s quite rare to get [action roles],” she told MTV News. “I mean, guys are always playing soldiers and warriors, [but] there’s not many roles for women like it. I really threw myself into it and did a lot of my own stunts, which I’m really, really proud of. I always sort of saw myself as a bit of a stunt girl anyway. I’m quite reckless. [Laughs.] So I was really pleased when I got offered this role.”

Two sequences in particular really got her blood moving. “There’s a horse-riding one, where I pull myself to the horse from standing while it’s galloping towards me,” she said. “It took me about two weeks to learn how to do that. And it was pretty nerve-racking doing it, because everyone’s watching, and I had to prove that I could do it.”

MovieWeb has posted their exclusive interview with Gemma in which she talks about her great love for her latest blockbuster Prince of Persia.

It didn’t take twenty-four year old British actress Gemma Arterton very long to establish her self as a successful movie star and Hollywood’s new “It” girl. She began her career as a Bond girl playing MI6 agent Strawberry Fields opposite Daniel Craig’s James Bond in Quantum of Solace, then returned to the screen earlier this year in Clash of the Titans, the popular remake of the classic ’80s mythology film starring Sam Worthington. Now Arterton is back once again with another huge adventure film as she takes on the role of Princess Tamina opposite Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal in Jerry Bruckheimer’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which is based on the beloved video game and opens in theaters of May 28th.

In the film, Arterton’s Tamina must join forces with Gyllenhaal’s Dastan in order to protect “The Dagger Of Time,” a magical weapon that has the power to reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world, before it falls into the hands of the evil Nizam played by Oscar winner Ben Kingsley. We recently had a chance to speak with Gemma Arterton about the new film, her character’s quest, how she won the role, what it’s like working on a Jerry Bruckheimer set and the chances of her returning for a possible sequel. Here is what the talented young actress had to say:

To begin with, the film hasn’t even opened yet and there have already been several rumors about a possible sequel, if that happened would you be interested in reprising your role in the next film?

Gemma Arterton: Yeah I would love to actually. We made it two years ago and I feel refreshed so if they wanted to do another, which I’m sure as it is hinted at (towards the end of the film) that there are many different avenues that it can go down. At the end of the film it is hinted that they have become like this alliance and started this sort of partnership. You know, in the games themselves there were all these different lands that they visited, so now I’m putting in all my suggestions to Jerry and I’m like, beaches maybe? Maybe the tropics so we get to go somewhere nice and hot?

The actress – who plays the female lead Princess Tamina in Disney’s latest blockbuster – was unhappy when she viewed the film for the first time because she feared she looked out of place in such a big movie.

She said: “I was really unhappy. I remember seeing the film and thinking ‘Wow, this is amazing and epic and beautiful’, and then seeing myself in it and thinking, what the hell am I doing in it? I just found it really weird, and I was a little depressed about it. Every insecurity you have is amplified on a huge screen. I can’t watch things more than a couple of times, because I find it too strange. I wasn’t always this way. In ‘St Trinian’s’ I didn’t care. But that’s changed.”

Although the 24-year-old star enjoyed her time with cast and crew, she couldn’t take the job seriously without panicking because it had such a big budget.

She explained to Stylist magazine: “My first day on set was a shock – the sets were huge and the producers spent thousands of dollars on my costumes. But I think I would have freaked out if I took the job too seriously, so I would muck about and have fun on set.

“I never saw ‘Prince of Persia’ as a big fat deal that would make me into a massive movie star, which is what certain people have said. It’s funny, it is a pivotal moment, but without putting it down, I think the most significant moments in my career were smaller films that challenged me, like ‘The Disappearance of Alice Creed’ and ‘Tess Of The D’Urbervilles’.”
