She’s slender, attractive and lives a glamorous lifestyle but James Bond girl Gemma Arterton has told Australian women to not imitate her or her Hollywood mates and instead create their own identity.

Arterton has emerged as the new darling of British cinema with a string of roles in blockbusters including Quantum Of Solace and most recently in The Boat That Rocked opposite Philip Seymour Hoffman.

But in a refreshing appraisal of celebrity culture, the model-cum-actress said she was surprised that on the other side of the world young women were trying to copy their idols at the expense of their own identity.

“It’s about working hard and being as competent as you can in your own world,” she said during a break from her latest film, the remake of Clash Of The Titans to be released in Australia in 2010.

Cheap, cheerful and ultra camp, St Trinian’s: The Legend of Fritton’s Gold has inevitably been described by film critics as the movie equivalent of a Christmas panto. On that level, although the film has received middling reviews, most critics agree that it makes a reasonable holiday film, for teenagers at least.

The second 21st-century remake of the St Trinian’s films – originally made in the 1950s starring Alastair Sim, George Cole and Joyce Grenfell – sees the girls in pursuit of a wicked millionaire, the evil Lord Pomfrey, played by Dr Who star David Tennant. Also joining the starry male cast is Colin Firth, who plays the old flame of horsey headmistress Camilla Fritton, played once again by Rupert Everett.

Twenty-something actresses Talulah Riley, Gemma Arterton and Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding don gym-slips to play the boisterous boarders. In 2009, the ‘belles’ of St Trinians are divided into tribes such as “emos, chavs and ‘posh tottie’”. And as the Guardian’s Xan Brooks notes, the students all look at least five years beyond their natural leaving date. “Presumably they are being held back for bad behaviour,” he says.

Actress Gemma Arterton has chosen theatre over films.

The beauty is set to star in stage show The Little Dog Laughed on the West End.

“There were many reasons for doing this play, but one of them was, ‘Oh I’ve just done these Hollywood movies – and now I can do a play about some aspects of Hollywood and some of the things I’ve seen,” the Daily Star quoted her as saying.

She added: “I’ve had a taste of it (fame) and I don’t want it. I would rather do a play in England, thank you very much.”

Arterton had made an appearance in Shakespeare’s Love’s Labour’s Lost in London in 2007.

Gemma Arterton’s going right into the lion’s den in her West End theatre debut.

She’s part of an ensemble of four actors starring in The Little Dog Laughed, a hilarious satire on the hypocrisy of Hollywood.

Having appeared as a Bond girl in Quantum Of Solace and with two blockbusters (Clash Of The Titans and Prince Of Persia) out next year, the timing is fortuitous.

She also has two smaller movies heading for the big screen.

The Disappearance Of Alice Creed is a scorching kidnap drama her agents tried to warn her off because there was no money and some nudity.

‘I told them I was doing it,’ she laughed. And it’s good she did, because it provides her best screen performance to date.

She’s also done Tamara Drew, with director Stephen Frears.

Speaking to the site about his preparation for the film, Gyllenhaal admitted, “I over-prepared myself because I never knew how much they were going to ask me to do, so I just made sure I’d be hopefully able to do anything. I guess I’ve gotten buff.” He additionally told ET that when the shooting wraps, “It’s going to turn into fat and I’m going to be happy.”
